Symposium ISTSS 2012

The 5th International Symposium on Tunnel Safety and Security will be held in New York, USA, 14-16th March, 2012.

Tunnel safety and security is a challenge for both private and public sectors. ISTSS provides a forum over 2½ days to discuss current practice and emerging trends and research in the field of tunnel safety and security.

The 5th ISTSS has the following themes: risk & security, human behaviour, construction, fire fighting, ventilation and fire dynamics.

Each day will be opened by invited Keynote Speakers, leaders in their field, providing an overview of their topic of expertise as an introduction to the themes of the day.

Strategic Plan

Mission Statement

The International Compressed Air Foam Association (ICAFA) is a not-for-profit association created in 2010 and is;

“Committed to promoting the innovative use of compressed air foam technology through political lobbying, public education and media promotion”

The above serves as a mission statement. This strategic plan also contains a vision for ICAFA, along with a list of goals and strategic objectives for achieving those goals.

This strategic plan is intended to serve as a long range plan and is intended to be reviewed every few years. Progress toward the goals identified in the plan is intended to be reviewed annually by the Board of Directors.

Vision

The International Compressed Air Foam Association aims to be the worldwide centre for information on Compressed Air Foam Systems and the usage of these systems.

Goals and Strategic Objectives

The goals of the ICAFA are those that will result in attainment of the organization’s vision. Strategic objectives are established to work toward the achievement of the goals.

1.  Promoting the wider use of compressed air foam to control and extinguish fires;

Goal:

To increase the knowledge of fire and rescue services globally so that the usage of Compressed Air Foam Systems to fight fires becomes their first choice.

Strategic Objectives:

Contribute articles and submit papers to professional journals that will raise understanding of the advantages of using Compressed Air Foam Systems.

Maintain liaison with related national and regional organizations and serve as an independent technical resource for such organizations.

Report on research findings and usage at incidents via the ICAFA website and newsletter.

2.  The adoption of standards and codes of practice

Goal:

To vigorously pursue the promotion of the adoption of standards and codes of practice in the design, manufacturing and testing of compressed air foam systems and components of them and materials used in them.

Strategic Objectives:

To be represented on every national and international standards committee related to systems and the foam and equipment used by those systems.

Develop and maintain a website that will serve as an international resource for accurate and timely information on industry products and practices.

3.  Delivery of Training and Education

Goal:

To promote the adopting of procedures for training and testing the proficiency of personnel engaged in the design, installation, inspection and usage of compressed air foam systems.

Strategic Objectives:

Through relationships with national and international bodies to promote best practice in the delivery of quality educational programs.

Sponsor seminar programs, scholarships and research projects aimed at stimulating interest in the capabilities of Compressed Air Foam Systems in emerging markets.

4.  Representing and supporting Members

Goal:

To be acknowledged as the best organisation to represent the views of members and for protecting their interests when dealing with local and national authorities and with the public.

Strategic Objectives:

Continue the recruitment of Members to provide primary financial resources for the organization.

To create an International Council of members and a committee structure that will ensure the effective management of the association for the benefit of members.

Develop web based programs that will be useful and of benefit to the members of the association.

Create and support strategic alliances, coalitions and ventures consistent with the goals of the organization
